As someone who buys yarn online, I’m always looking for yarn reviews!
I find them super helpful to see how a yarn knits up and performs over time.
So I decided to start sharing some reviews of my own, in case it’s helpful for others who are as picky about their fabrics as I am :)
First up: Wooldreamers Saona, one of the very first yarns I ever used.
I loved knitting this and here’s why –

Wooldreamers Saona Review
Wooldreamers
Wooldreamers is a Spanish family run mill that sources and spins their yarn entirely in Spain.
They’ve been around for 100 years but historically produced yarn for industrial rug manufacturing.
Relatively recently, a yarn dyer asked them if they’d consider producing yarn for crafting.
So in 2020 they started creating yarns for knitters.

Saona
Saona is a 50/50 cotton and wool blend.
The cotton is Andalusian cotton, a high-quality, long-staple cotton cultivated almost exclusively in Southern Spain.
The wool is a blend of merino and manchego sheep – yes, the same manchego that produce manchego cheese!
Most of the sheep are local to Wooldreamers, within a ~90 mile radius so this is a very sustainable yarn if you’re in Spain.
I ordered this online, sight unseen, from The Woolly Thistle. They offer free shipping on US orders over $99 and everything came quickly.
They carry a couple other yarn options from Wooldreamers and I’m excited to try more of them.

Swatches
I chose Wooldreamers Saona for my very first knitting project, simply because it was the yarn used in the pattern and I loved the pattern sample sweater.
The project called for three strands held together, 2 of this fingering weight Saona and a third strand of mohair, so my only swatch is with all 3 strands together.
(I didn’t really know about gauge swatching at the time and now have barely any left of it)
But hopefully it gives you a nice visual for what Saona looks like.
Colors
Wooldreamers Saona is offered in 10+ colors, all beautifully heathered.
I heard that the line was developed in collaboration with https://collabs.shop/uefj0y (Ozetta).
I couldn’t find out if that was true, but the colors are certainly stunning!
I chose Fratelli – a beautiful steel bluish grey color, that also has flecks of lavender and white.

Yarn Review
I really enjoyed working with Wooldreamers Saona.
It’s not the softest wool, but it’s lightweight, warm and durable.
The balls didn’t have any knots and despite the cotton content, I had no issues knitting with this.
I used a combination of Wooldreamers Saona and Biches et Buches Le Petit Silk Mohair to make the Lakes Pullover sweater.

The resulting fabric has great stitch definition and is medium weight, but very, very warm. I really like the fabric.
It’s got a great balance of drape, structure and warmth without feeling stiff, heavy or scratchy.
