I got a new indoor garden!

I think my living room wall of gardens is complete now (mostly because I’m out of space, ha).

The latest addition?

This two-tier extra large indoor garden from LetPot: the LPH-Home.

It’s an exciting time in the indoor gardening space.

In the last year alone, so many companies have come with lots of new products and unique designs.

I personally love my large floor gardens the best. When I saw that LetPot was releasing their very own floor garden, I was immediately intrigued.

The LPH-Home is a two-tier floor garden that comes with two 16-pod gardens and an integrated plant stand.

LetPot

LetPot is a Chinese manufacturer of affordable indoor gardens.

I have (almost) every indoor garden in their lineup, because everything they make is great quality and reasonably priced.

I started with their countertop LetPot Air, used it for a couple of years and was impressed by the quality. Since then, I’ve slowly accumulated more and more gardens from the brand.

My favorite is their LPH-Max garden.

It’s the 21-pod model that I often use to seed start plants for all my other gardens.

I’ve grown everything from herbs to cucumbers in my LetPot gardens

 

This newest launch is their largest garden yet.

Since I like growing veggies in my NYC apartment, I’m always more drawn to larger hydroponic systems, the kind that sit on the floor and have more vertical growing height.

The bigger the garden, the bigger vegetables you can grow.

I really love my Aerogarden Farm XLs, Click & Grow Smart Garden 27 and Lettuce Grow Farmstand – they’re always running at full capacity.

So to have a new large indoor garden enter the market is really exciting.

In today’s post, I’ll unbox and set up the LPH-Home and share my first impressions after using the garden for 45 days.

Is it worth adding to your indoor garden?

LetPot LPH-Home

The LPH-Home is a 2-tier indoor garden system with room for up to 32 total plants, as well as an integrated plant stand.

On the bottom shelf, you have a 24W full spectrum grow light with a 16-pod garden. The light height is fixed at 12 inches (30 cm).

On the top shelf, you have a 36W full spectrum grow light with another 16-pod garden. This upper light is adjustable, with a maximum height of 22 inches (56 cm).

Both gardens are the same shape and size, with a 6L reservoir (~1.6 gallons).

LetPot recommends growing herbs and leafy greens on the bottom shelf, and larger veggies on the upper shelf.

Plant Stand

The LPH-Home garden also comes with a plant stand.

It’s made from sleek bamboo-colored wood, with a touch screen monitor up top.

I’m really impressed with the plant stand. Not only does it look beautiful, it’s well designed and super functional.

The gardens plug directly into their respective shelves, and the stand has all the electronic components already integrated!

So you have just one power cord at the very bottom, all the others are hidden within the frame of the plant stand itself.

Overall, it’s a super sleek indoor garden.

I hate seeing wires everywhere so I really love the integrated cord management and how the electronics are all built-in.

The stand itself is quite sturdy, more sturdy than my Click and Grow plant stand.

At the top, you have two cute hidden storage trays where you can store extra supplies and accessories. In these, I placed the plant nutrients, extra covers and support legs.

Note: the LED grow light on the bottom shelf is fixed, while the top LED panel can be pulled down to adjust it up and down as the plants grow.

I’m a little surprised by that, so we’ll see how it performs!

Typically, indoor grow lights are moveable. I’m not sure if the bottom garden light will be strong enough to prevent leggy seedlings.

One thing I really love after putting it all together is the wheels.

The plant stand is moveable, with 4 detachable wheels.

Everything glides super smoothly and I find it helpful to be able to roll and turn the indoor garden 360 degrees.

When you place the garden where you want it to stay, you can lock 2 of the wheels to prevent it from rolling.

Having a garden on wheels is the best.

I put my Farmstand on a rolling dolly and I’m constantly rotating and shifting it to check on my plants or bring it to my kitchen sink for a refill.

So having the LPH-Home on wheels is clutch!

Assembling the LPH-Home

Once everything was laid out on the floor, it seemed pretty intuitive so I got to work.

And I was very pleasantly surprised because it was incredibly straightforward to put together!

First Impressions

The LetPot LPH-Home is really well made.

And I mean, really well made.

Usually with these large indoor gardens, the setup process can take a bit of time.

The LPH-Home is definitely the easiest assembly process out of all the large indoor gardens I’ve tried.

Much simpler than the Lettuce Grow Farmstand, much easier than the Aerogarden Farm and even faster than the Click and Grow smart garden 27.

It’s clear that the brand put a lot of thought into the design and components.

All of the holes and screws lined up perfectly.

Assembling it took about 20 minutes.

(And really, it only took that long because I was operating without instructions and filming the process.)

On top of the garden, there’s two built-in drawers for storage. I kept the spare accessories in here.

The plant stand is quite unique.

It’s not just a pretty stand, as it actually has all the electronic components built-in.

Instead of ugly wires dangling down everywhere, the cables are built right into the stand parts and neatly hidden.

You just want to make sure when you’re assembling it that you’re matching up the right and left sides. The right side has the electronic parts, while the left side is plain wood.

I was also really happy with all the included accessories.

Basket Covers

The one thing is that you won’t be able to write the names of the plants on these silicone basket covers the way you would with regular sticker labels.

That doesn’t bother me because I planted the entire top garden with the same type of plant (flowers).

And, I now keep track of all my garden organization on a Notion page.

The LetPot LPH-Home silicone basket covers are sleek and uniform.

You can also use them interchangeably with other gardens.

When I run out of sticker labels, I usually resort to aluminum foil – which is kind of ugly.

These are much sleeker.

Bonus points for being washable and reusable too!

Baskets and Sponges

Space Covers

The LetPot LPH-Home also comes with lots of space covers. These are flat caps that cover up an unused grow space.

Depending on what you plant, you may want to leave some grow holes empty, so it’s nice that the brand includes them.

(Aerogarden usually includes 3 and sells more as a separate accessory)

I love how many LetPot included – I’m always looking for more space covers!

EC Meter

EC meters never come with indoor gardens. They’re an extra tool that you purchase separately.

I actually got one of LetPot’s EC meters about a year ago to grow strawberries. I wrote a review on it here.

So the fact that the LPH-Home includes two (!) of these is really nice.

They cost around $60 each so that’s basically an extra $120 in value from the garden.

Each garden gets its own EC meter.

But this past summer the heat and humidity has been brutal.

All my large vegetables have been suffering so I’ve had to more closely monitor things.

So having built-in EC monitors within the LPH-Home will be so helpful!

You can check the EC reading on both the touchscreen monitor as well as on the LetPot mobile app.

I can’t wait to see how this improves my growing process.

Use Your Own Seeds

The LetPot LPH-Home doesn’t come with seeds.

I’m often asked where I buy seeds and what varieties I like, so I wrote a guide to all my favorite heirloom seed companies here.

I recommend herbs and lettuces if you’re a beginner to hydroponics.

Look for compact plants that are suitable for containers and small spaces. Some of my go to vegetables are:

• Basil
• Cherry Tomatoes
• Lettuce

I just got in some new seeds from Ferry Morse and True Leaf Market, so I decided to plant them in the LPH-Home.

Up top, I planted these adorable pompom zinnias.

And on the bottom, I planted a mix of herbs: Thai basil, Italian basil, rosemary and chives.

I got everything set up, then left for summer vacation.

When I got back, the garden was thriving!

1 Month Update

Everything worked seamlessly – my zinnias were just starting to bloom.

Zinnias are quite a quick-growing flower so I really recommend them as an indoor garden variety.

They come in so many shapes, sizes and colors!

This new-to-me variety is a larger zinnia, with bigger and rounder petals.

Every other day, a new zinnia will bloom so I can usually make small bouquets every other week!

The herbs were lush and full too.

I harvested a big batch of basil to make pesto, another big batch to freeze as whole leaves.

And I used the Thai basil for my go-to Thai recipe, pad kra pao.

LetPot LPH-Home Review

Pros

So far, one month in, I’m loving the LetPot LPH-Home!

I’ve got new zinnias popping up and blooming with color every day.

The garden’s moveable wheels makes checking my plants so convenient and the garden operates quietly and efficiently.

My Lettuce Grow tower felt a bit like DIY-home-depot parts list, and the Aerogarden Farms were such a nightmare to assemble.

The LetPot LPH-Home has been a much more effortless garden to set up and get started with!

You Can Set a Fully Custom Light Schedule

I like that you can program each garden’s light schedule.

You can choose the light start time, end time and duration.

The built-in touchscreen is easy to use and navigate and I like that it’s placed up top so you don’t have to crouch down.

I also like that you can touch the screen and with 1 click, power the garden on and off.

Sometimes I need to shut off the lights temporarily and having it possible with the touch of a button is convenient.

Some other brands don’t have a simple on/off switch and you have to change the light schedule to get the lights to turn off.

You Can Also Control the Garden from the Mobile App

LetPot has their own mobile app that you can download from the App Store.

It’s nice because it’s an additional way to control the garden’s lights and settings if you’re in a different room.

It also allows you to connect multiple LetPot gardens in one handy interface.

But, if you don’t want to download this, it’s not at all necessary.

You can control everything you need on the LPH-Home from the touchscreen on the garden itself.

LetPot Uses Universal Components

Some brands make proprietary sponges and uniquely shaped basket sizes to try to lock you into buying parts from them anytime you want to plant something new.

I like that LetPot uses a standard grow basket size and universal sponges.

After your first round of planting ends, you can buy additional baskets and sponges from the company or other third-party brands.

You Can Use Your Own Seeds

You also have complete flexibility to use whatever seeds you like!

The company doesn’t sell their own seeds or seedlings, and doesn’t lock you into any kind of subscription model.

They also don’t push any kind of ‘AI assistant’ or similar subscription / AI nonsense.

I do recommend that you get fresh, high quality seeds.

Good seeds make or break the growing experience so it’s worth spending a little more.

Plus, you can grow unique vegetable varieties that you can’t even buy at the grocery store or farmer’s market!

Lots of Growing Space in a Compact Footprint

The LetPot LPH-Home is a compact floor design, packing a lot in a small footprint.

If you live in a small apartment like me, and want to maximize your space, growing vertically is essential.

The entire Home system stands about 108 cm tall, 42 cm wide, and 31 cm deep and it’s equipped with four removable caster wheels for easy moving.

You can lock two wheels once you’ve placed the garden in its permanent spot.

I really like being able to move it around the room, as I’m constantly re-organizing my living room.

I also find it helpful to wheel it right near my kitchen sink for easy tank changes, water refills and deep cleaning.

2 Separate Gardens for Fine-Tuned Precision

The LPH-Home is designed to run 2 separate gardens concurrently.

Having separate water tanks allow you to grow plants with different nutrient requirements within the same system. 

It’s a similar setup to the Aerogarden Farm design and one that I personally like.

(The flipside is this means you need to water twice and add nutrients twice, but I think the added flexibility and customization is more pro than con)

I also love that LetPot included two EC meters with this indoor garden, so you can get extra precise with your garden experiments.

These are typically a costly extra accessory ($60 each) so that’s an extra $120 in value.

Beautifully Designed and Well Priced

The quality of LetPot’s newest garden is excellent.

The design is really sleek. In person, it’s even prettier than the initial image renderings so I was pleasantly surprised!

It’s priced well compared to other large floor gardens and I think it’s good value for money.

Some people like to say that you can DIY your own bucket and hose contraption and create an indoor garden for much less.

Yes, I guess you could… but let’s be honest, that’s ugly!

I personally don’t want a hodge podge basement-science-lab vibe right in my living room.

I live in a small apartment where everything is visible from the front door.

So I always appreciate when a company puts effort and attention to detail into the design and craftsmanship of their products.

I’m very impressed with the aesthetics of the LPH-Home – 10/10.

And by choosing beautiful, functional indoor gardens, they’re like living decor pieces.

They always spark curiosity when people come over!

Cons

The Light Height Could Be Taller

I would love if LetPot offered a garden with 3+ feet of growing height.

I find that large vegetables love to grow tall so even one foot of extra grow height can make a meaningful difference.

I’m also not quite sure why the bottom light height is fixed at one foot. I was initially worried the light height would be too far above the plants on the bottom shelf.

But it’s now 45 days in and my plants are growing perfectly fine, so it doesn’t seem to be an issue!

I didn’t experience any leggy or toppling plants on the bottom garden.

I’ll keep tracking the progress and give another update of the LPH-Home in a couple months!
