I’m often asked if I think the Chiagoo stainless steel needles are worth the money.
I know Chiaogoo needles are pricey but I love them.
I did some quick math to see if it’s worth buying the set to ‘save money’ (vs buying individual needles). I realized it depends on the set!
So in today’s post, I wanted to give a quick overview on whether the Interchangeable Sets are worth buying and how you can save a little bit of money.
I ran the math on the ChiaoGoo sets that I have:
- 5″ Twist Red Lace Set
- 4″ Twist Mini Set
Chiaogoo Twist vs Twist Mini
The Twist set is the go-to Chiaogoo set, with needle tips in the regular range. It’s available in 4″ tips and 5″ tips.
The Twist Mini is the Chiaogoo set for the smaller needle tips. It’s also available in both 4″ tips and 5″ tips.
Note: Chiaogoo needles have different cables depending on the size of the tip. The 3.5mm is the smallest needle tip that can be used with their regular ‘small’ cords. From the 3.0mm size and smaller, you must use their ‘mini’ cords that are thinner and not compatible with the larger needle tips.

You don’t save much money buying the Chiaogoo Twist Mini set.
The set includes 5 needle tip sizes along with the accompany cords and costs $105.
If you were to buy everything individually, it’d cost $106.
- ~$14 for each interchangeable needle tip x 5 = $70
- ~$12 for each cable cord x 3 = $36
I already had the cables with my existing Chiaogoos so I could have just bought the needle tips and saved $36.
But it’s nice to have a whole kit, with everything organized together, and I figured additional cables would be helpful if I were to ever cast on multiple projects.
So I went ahead and splurged on the set.
For the standard Chiagoo Twist set, you do save money.
The set includes 13 needle tip sizes along with 6 accompanying cords and costs ~$216.
If you were to buy everything individually, it’d cost ~$306
- ~$18 for each interchangeable needle tip x 13 = $234
- ~$12 for each cable cord x 6 = $72
So you save ~$90 by buying the set! And you get some helpful small accessories as well as a handy pouch to keep everything tidy.
The Chiaogoo floral print pouch is ugly as sin but it does keep everything neatly organized together!
